Welcome to
SALINA CHURCH OF CHRIST
A 1st CENTURY CHURCH, SERVING CHRIST IN THE 21st CENTURY
The scriptures teach, that it is God's will that the true worshippers of God will worship Him in spirit and in truth. (John 4:23) We believe that the scriptures also teach that God has made this possible by providing a way to become one with Him in Spirit (Acts 2:38-39) and (Romans 6:1-11), as well as provide a pattern for us to follow so we can practice first century New Testament Christianity today. (2nd Timothy 1:13-14). These truths come to us through the revelation of God’s will as it is taught to us in His word, “All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
(2 Timothy 3:16-17)
For these truths to be the pattern that we follow in our worship, we are committed to speak where the scripture speaks and remain silent where the scripture remains silent. The scriptures also referred to as the Bible, teaches from the beginning to end not to add to or take away what is written in it (Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18-19). This teaches us that our church must be the same in NAME, ORGANIZATION, WORSHIP, DOCTRINE and LIFESTYLE as was the first century church. We believe that the exhortation made to the church at Ephesus by the inspired apostle Paul, is still relevant for us today, “Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:1-6
OUR WORSHIP SERVICES ARE CONDUCTED AS THEY WERE IN THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH
Lord's Supper / Communion
We partake of the Lord's Supper every Sunday to remind us of the sacrifice on the Cross of the Lord Jesus Christ and His eventual return (1 Corinthians 11:22-33; Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 10:14-16). This memorial was instituted by Jesus during the night of his betrayal (Matt. 26:26-29). During the communion baptized (immersed) Believers eat unleavened bread (emblematic of Jesus' body) and drink fruit of the vine/grape juice (emblematic of Jesus' blood).
Singing
We encourage everyone to participate in our singing as we lift our voices in songs of praise without the aid of musical instruments - a cappella music (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16, Hebrews 13:15). Song books are located in the racks in front of the pews (bench seats). During our a.m. services, the songs will be projected on a large screen.
Preaching
Our evangelist instructs us in the word of God as found only in the Bible (2 Timothy 4:2). They are committed to faithfully teaching, the "word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified." (Acts 20:32 ) Expect to hear a practical, relevant sermon rooted in Scripture each and every week.
Prayer
We petition God in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-2). Several men in the congregation will be called upon to lead prayers during the service (1 Timothy 2:8). Through the ministry of prayer we are able to praise, honor, petition and give thanks to God (Philippians 4:6)
Giving / Contribution
We give of our financial means to maintain or support the work of the Lord's church in this community and beyond. Each member is expected on the first day of the week to give according as they have prospered.
(1 Corinthians 16:1-2), never forgetting that "God loves a cheerful giver" (2 Corinthians 9:7).
